The College of Science at the University of Nevada, Reno is seeking applications for an IT Technician 5. The purpose of this position is to support the academic computing environment for all departments in the College of Science, specifically teaching labs. The position will maintain and repair over 75 desktop PC workstations in the college academic computer labs; replace and re-image and troubleshoot desktop PC workstations when necessary; maintain a license server for Mining/Metallurgy; and maintain virtual machine hosts running licensing software.

This position will provide desktop PC and Apple Mac support for all computers utilized by staff, faculty, graduate students and postdoctoral scholars in the College of Science, including configuring OS and software according to University Policies and Procedures. This position is responsible for installation, diagnosis, servicing, and repairing microcomputer and peripheral hardware and software, performing upgrades, modifications, and relocations of microcomputer and peripheral hardware and software on computer equipment, and provide user support for faculty and students using the facilities within the college.

In addition, this position will provide technical support for the Fleischmann planetarium for an LED display system, both computer and system hardware and software in the absence of planetarium support staff.

Required Qualifications

Graduation from high school or equivalent education and two (2) years of IT work experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of network workstation hardware and software; OR

One (1) year of relevant experience as an IT Technician IV in Nevada State service; OR

An equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with desktop computing support is preferred.

Schedule

The typical work schedule for this position is Monday through Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm; this is subject to change based on organizational needs.

Compensation Grade

Grade 34



In classified service, salary is in Grade and Step. The Step is determined based on the Nevada Administrative Code. Salary placement above a Step 01 at initial appointment is determined based on the recruitment, the candidate’s qualifications, internal equity and budgets. A request to accelerate salary must be approved by Human Resources and abide by the Nevada Administrative Code.
