Job Description

Join the forefront of groundbreaking research at the Beckman Research Institute of City of Hope, where we're changing lives and making a real difference in the fight against cancer, diabetes, and other life-threatening illnesses. Our dedicated and compassionate faculty and staff are driven by a common mission: Contribute to innovative approaches in predicting, preventing, and curing diseases, shaping the future of medicine through cutting-edge research.

A full-time postdoctoral position is available in Dr. Yun Rose Li’s laboratory. Dr. Li, a physician-scientist in radiation oncology, leads research that integrates genetic epidemiology, advanced sequencing, and bioinformatics technologies—including single-cell and spatial transcriptomics—with molecular biology approaches using cell-based and animal models. Her work also involves biomarker studies from clinical trials to understand the role of metabolic dysfunction in cancer risk and treatment response.

For more information on Dr. Li’s research please visit here.

Dr. Li holds a joint assignment with The Translational Genomics Research Institute (TGen), part of City of Hope. To learn more, please visit here.

As a successful candidate, you will:

  • Work primarily in genomics/computational biology. This position is in-person for the first 6 months, with the possibility of transitioning to a remote role based on performance and fit.
  • Possess or develop strong skills in computational biology or bioinformatics, particularly in next-generation sequencing (NGS), single-cell, and spatial profiling approaches.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to mentoring junior trainees, contributing to a collaborative and supportive lab culture.
  • Be involved in grant proposal and manuscript writing, with an expectation to pursue an independent scientific career post-training.
  • You will collaborate with team members and external partners, serving as a scientific/technical expert to drive high-throughput sequencing projects using the latest technologies.
  • A proactive, self-motivated approach is essential.

Your qualifications should include:

  • A Ph.D. in Genomics, Bioinformatics, or a related field. Degrees in Biomedical Sciences, Molecular and Cellular Biology, or Cell Biology with computational skills will also be considered.
  • 1-2 years of experience in computational biology or programming, with a working knowledge of command line and high-performance computing (HPC)/Linux, and an interest in developing expertise in cancer biology and genomics.
  • Experience with coding in R, Matlab and/or Python, and adapt to using the UNIX command line and performing analysis using high performance computing cluster.
  • Experience working with DNA and/or library preparation as well as general cell culture and molecular biology training in the wet lab such as flow cytometry.
  • Candidates from physical sciences, computer science, or engineering who wish to pivot to biomedical sciences are strongly encouraged to apply.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Interest in analyzing ctDNA, microbiome, and functional genomics datasets, such as expression or proteomics.
  • Knowledge of wet lab aspects of NGS or experience in sequencing library preparation, project planning, and troubleshooting.
