Job Description

The Coastal Oregon Marine Experiment Station invites applications for a full-time (1.00 FTE), 12-month, tenure track Assistant Professor position.

This position is expected to provide expertise in aquaculture, and to contribute to the research and outreach missions of the Coastal Oregon Marine Experiment Station. The incumbent will develop and maintain an externally funded program conducting original and independent research, training and outreach in aquaculture, with emphasis on shellfish and seaweeds. The incumbent will have an academic home in an appropriate department in the College of Agricultural Sciences (CAS), such as the Department of Fisheries, Wildlife, and Conservation Sciences (FWCS), the Department of Microbiology, or the Department of Food Sustainability and Technology. The academic home serves as the source of review for tenure and promotion, teaching assignments and curriculum development, and student advising and support.

As a member of the Coastal Oregon Marine Experiment Station (COMES), the incumbent will be expected to work closely with coastal communities and federal, state, and private organizations in support of the COMES mission “to understand, utilize, and sustain marine resources and coastal ecosystems in order to benefit the citizens of Oregon, the Pacific Northwest, the Nation, and the World.” The incumbent will join a diverse, welcoming, and vibrant group of faculty, staff, and students who strive to create a sense of place and belonging. What You Will Need

• Ph.D. or equivalent advanced degree in marine or aquatic science, including but not limited to aquaculture, biology or related discipline.

• Demonstrated ability to conduct and publish impactful research on various aquaculture topics.

• Demonstrated excellence in oral communication, written communication, and interpersonal skills.

• Demonstrated commitment to working professionally and inclusively with people from all backgrounds.

This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.

This position requires driving a university vehicle or a personal vehicle on behalf of the university; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a motor vehicle history check, possess and maintain a current, valid driver’s license in their state of residence, be determined to be position qualified and self-report convictions as per University Policy 05-030.

What We Would Like You to Have

• Post-doctoral or post-graduate professional experience in aquaculture or related discipline.

• Demonstrated ability or significant potential for mentoring undergraduate students, graduate students, and post-doctoral scholars in aquaculture.

• Ability to accommodate frequent travel within Oregon, as well as nationally and internationally.

• Record of work with underrepresented/underserved students or other audiences.

• Experience working with stakeholders in the aquaculture industry.

• Life experience, education, or training that broadens capacity to ensure student success and impact underserved audiences.

• A demonstrated appreciation for the mission of a Land Grant institution.

Working Conditions / Work Schedule
Office and lab environment. Working with lab equipment, chemicals, and other items/products controlled by state or federal laws. Travel to meetings and conferences as needed.
