College/Department Information

The Immunology Center of Georgia (IMMCG) represents a new initiative by the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University to leverage the ability of the immune system to combat disease. The IMMCG will accomplish this by assembling teams of biomedical researchers with strong records of scientific innovation and technological development. The IMMCG will be co-directed by world-class immunologists Drs. Catherine `Lynn' Hedrick and Klaus Ley, both of whom have made major discoveries linking immune cells to specific mechanisms of disease. The goal of the IMMCG is to produce novel and effective treatments for conditions that heavily impact the communities of Georgia and the United States. The new center is aggressively recruiting faculty and staff to lead projects focused on cardiovascular disease, obesity and metabolic disorders, autoimmune and infectious disease, neurodegenerative disease and cancer.

Job Summary

Performs laboratory work related to immunological studies in T cell biology and cancer. Maintains research database, communicates well with other lab members, and works well as part of a team. Lab managerial duties include day-to-day lab maintenance and supervision of all activities related to research logistics (e.g., stocking, equipment maintenance, inventory, and ordering), maintain animal colonies and inventory, research safety. The incumbent will instruct postdoctoral scholars, graduate students and other staff members various aspects of the research program including the use of animals, develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) and the orderly function of the lab. With minimal supervision, the incumbent will edit and maintain up to date IACUC and IRB protocols. Will need to know Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Under supervision, the incumbent will use basic molecular biology, biochemistry, cell culture, immunology, histology, and flow cytometry techniques to independently conduct a number of experimental procedures. The incumbent will perform standard animal procedures (ear tagging, injection, handling, anesthesia maintenance & recovery) to meet the needs of the research projects, providing ideas and rationale to help improve tests that are unsatisfactory.

Responsibilities

The duties include, but are not limited to:

Research: Perform a variety of basic molecular biology, histology, and flow cytometry procedures to meet the needs of the research projects; perform standard animal procedures to meet the needs of the research projects

Management: Lab managerial duties. Maintain IACUC, IRB protocols

Mouse Colony: Maintain animal colonies and inventory

Other: Perform other related duties as assigned by P.I.

Required Qualifications

Ph.D. from an accredited college or university with a minimum of one year directly applicable experience; previous supervisory experience.
OR
Master's degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum of five years' progressive grant management, resources management and quality assurance program development experience.

OR

Major coursework completed on a Ph.D. in a related scientific field with two years of progressive grant management, resources management and quality assurance program development experience.
OR
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum of eight years' progressive grant management, resources management and quality assurance program development experience.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities



Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases.

SKILLS

Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Detail oriented.

ABILITIES

Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Shift/Salary/Benefits

Shift: Days; Monday - Friday (Work outside of normal business hours may be required)

Salary Minimum: $62,300 annually

Pay Band: B12

Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position
