Job Summary
Information and Technology Services (ITS) is looking for an Oracle RAC Database Administrator to join the Database Administration team within the System Operations division of ITS. ITS-System Operations is the central enterprise data provider for the University of Michigan campus. SysOp partners with the schools, colleges, and administrative departments to ensure data is secure, accessible, and meaningful to data consumers.

If selected, you will report to the Database Administration Manager and you will:

Administer Oracle databases in a high-availability environment.
Perform the full range of database administration tasks including designing, installing, upgrading, patching, tuning, monitoring, securing and troubleshooting databases with large amounts of data with high transaction rates.
Support at least one other database platform the team supports
Participate in a paid on-call rotation every 4 weeks.
Contribute to the development of the automation of routine DBA processes.
Have a voice in decisions made about new database technologies.
This position is locally based in Ann Arbor, MI. There is an opportunity for hybrid remote/local work, but on-site availability is a requirement.

Responsibilities*
Administer Oracle databases in a high-availability environment.
Install, configure, upgrade, patch and maintain Oracle Databases on Exadata and RedHat Linux Servers.
Performs database administration tasks including back, recovery, tuning database configuration for optimal performance, monitoring and resolving errors.
Enhance and support the architecture for high availability and disaster recovery with RAC and Data Guard.
Patch and Maintain High Availability Oracle Enterprise Manager Environment.
Automate reactive and proactive tasks to provide better service and improved DBA efficiency
Supports planning and reporting on capacity metrics and growth forecasting for future purchases of database resources.
Actively coordinate with team members and service support groups to effectively resolve incidents, requests, fixes, and minor enhancements.
Demonstrates written communication skills through clear documentation of database environments/architectures and procedures for others to follow.
Integrate new technologies such as cloud databases into the environment
Continue to develop your DBA skills and information technology knowledge
Assignments include but are not limited to, development, automation, CI/CD, installation, configuration, customization, troubleshooting, upgrades, integration, and maintenance of systems and software, specifically focused on database software and supporting applications.
Monitor applications and other systems for availability, error conditions, performance, and otherwise ensure services are fully operational.
Evaluate existing applications, workflows and processes to identify areas for improvement and work with constituent groups to plan appropriate updates.
Required Qualifications*
Bachelor's degree in computer science, business computing or a related field or equivalent combination of education, certification and experience.
Minimum of 5 years of experience as an oracle database engineer/DBA
Extensive knowledge and solid troubleshooting experience in the following areas RAC, ASM, Exadata features, Performance tuning, Multitenant, OEM, Patching, Security, Wallet, TDE, Data Guard.
Demonstrated ability to perform database backups and recoveries for large databases on Exadata as well as stand alone databases on RHEL Linux Servers.
Experience with database software installing, patching , upgrading, tuning, monitoring and securing databases.
Extensive experience in Installing, configuring, upgrading, patching, monitoring and creating alerts on Oracle Enterprise Manager ( OEM )
Solid experience and understanding of the linux/unix operating system.
Ability to create effective audit policies and analyze data collected in unified auditing.
Ability to understand, troubleshoot, and resolve complex issues in a timely manner.
Effective communication skills, including strong interpersonal skills with an ability to work effectively through all levels of management and matrix organizations.
Excellent organizational, analytical and independent problem-solving skills.
Programming experience with shell/perl/python, ideally in Linux system automation.
Ability to work under pressure - quick thinking and remaining calm during stressful situations.
Willingness to work in shifts and on weekends.
Desired Qualifications*
Experience as a Database Machine Administration (DMA) on Oracle Exadata, including management of Linux operating systems and storage. Very thorough and clear understanding of Oracle Exadata Architecture
Experience managing databases for large-scale ERP products with high-availability
Experience with installing and maintaining additional RDBMS like MySQL
Experience with NoSQL database platforms such as MongoDB
Programming experience in any language ideally in Linux system automation.
Experience with Git or source code management.
Experience with automation tools such as Ansible, Puppet or Chef.
Experience with cloud computing environments such as Amazon Web Services, Google Compute Environment or Microsoft Azure.
Experience with log analytic tools such as Splunk.
Modern programming skills in any language, including version control, test-driven development, and debugging.
Experience with continuous integration tools (e.g. Jenkins, GitLab CI).
