What Your Job Will Be Like:

Are you passionate about construction management? Do you want to join a dynamic Facilities team responsible for performing design and construction activities of medium to large projects for Sandia California site infrastructure? If so, you could be the dedicated Lead Construction Manager we are seeking.

Construction managers assure project success by managing the safety, schedule, budget, and quality of each project and assure that project requirements are met. In this role, you can expect a fast-paced environment where you will manage multiple projects on any given day. You will proactively seek out issues and resolve them quickly; develop solutions to complex challenges, assemble teams to assure decisions are comprehensive and complete, reduce operational impacts, and assure accurate project costs and changes from the construction contractors.

As the Sandia Delegated Representative, you will be responsible for leading a team of contract construction managers and provide work assignments, issue resolution, mentorship, and guidance for the program.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Perform construction management duties to ensure tenant improvement and new construction projects are completed safely, on time, meet scope, and are delivered within budget.
  • Ensure compliance with Sandia California Facilities, corporate, environmental, safety, and health requirements to develop and deliver complete construction projects safely and effectively.
  • Oversee all activities performed by construction contractors.
  • Provide proper coordination, guidance, and leadership to Sandia contracted construction managers and inspectors to effectively schedule and manage all aspects of construction work.
  • Provide feedback to contract construction management firm on their staff that support Sandia construction program.
  • Resolve issues between construction contractors and contract construction managers.
  • Provide change order management, dispute resolution, constructability reviews, and contract administration of Sandia contracted construction management and inspection services.
  • Develop an integrated construction contractor schedule to manage all construction work as a program and assign construction projects to Sandia contracted construction managers.
  • Facilitate and participate in pre-construction conferences and construction progress review meetings with Sandia Project Managers, General Contractors, Customers, and Stakeholders.
  • Provide upfront focus on risk management, value management, cost, and project controls of construction projects.
  • Perform construction project close out activities, including record documentation, and transition to operations and maintenance in a timely manner.
  • Represent the Project and Construction Management organization in specification development, contract negotiations, internal organization performance challenges, and programmatic performance improvements.

Due to the nature of the job, the selected candidate must be able to work onsite.

Salary Range:

$113,600 - $221,100

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant discipline plus 10 or more years of construction management experience; or master’s degree relevant discipline plus 7 or more years’ construction management experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with California Building Codes, Municipality Construction Permits, and USGBC LEED Certifications.
  • If offered the position, you may be required to demonstrate your fitness to perform certain physical aspects of the position, including lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an active DOE Q-level security clearance.

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Certified Construction Manager (CCM) credential through the Construction Management Association of America or an equivalent certification.
  • Understanding of DOE Order 413 and Project Earned Value Management Systems.
  • Strong communication, organizational, negotiation, time management, and leadership skills, and ability to interact with all levels of staff and management.
  • Solid working knowledge of construction requirements such as CALOSHA, construction techniques, sequencing, scheduling, risk mitigation, and estimating.
  • Ability to lead technical teams to solutions while balancing objectives such as cost, schedule, performance, quality, and safety.
  • Demonstrated analytical skills with the ability to anticipate, identify, and resolve problems with high level of detail.
  • Experience with scheduling and construction management software packages such as Primavera, and Microsoft Project.
  • Ability to implement system processes utilizing the latest technical approaches, handle frequent changing priorities, and coordinate multiple activities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Deep understanding of construction management processes and procedures.
  • Experience leading a team in construction management.

Our team collaborates with our customers, keeping mission success and values as a shared goal, to provide engineering expertise and deliver an array of projects as one unified flow of work from initial conception through completion.
